Glynnis Miller - Biography

Artist Biography:

Glynnis Miller is a self-taught pencil artist who discovered the love of drawing at a young age and always had a pencil in hand. Glynnis began her career as a professional artist only after retiring from the medical field.

Glynnis’ work portrays her lifelong love of horses and the western lifestyle. The ranching community of Elko, Nevada was Glynnis’ home during her school years and the influence of Elko’s ranches, cowboys, rodeos and (of course) horses is evident in her artwork. The freedom and rugged independence of the cowboy lifestyle in the wide open spaces of the west has always appealed to Glynnis and she is honored to portray this in her art.

The pencil, graphite or charcoal, is Glynnis’ medium of choice. Each drawing is meticulously planned and the result of hundreds of hours with the tiny tip of a sharp pencil. Patience and focus are a requirement with this simplest, yet complex medium.

“My goal is to create texture, contrast and form with painstaking layering and shading resulting in a drawing that leaps off the paper and allows the viewer to “see” color. It’s my desire to capture beauty and soul, regardless of the subject matter. Beauty has the power to evoke powerful emotions and fill us with awe and wonder. I hope to inspire these feelings and provide food for the soul through my art that may be enjoyed for a lifetime”.

Glynnis has received numerous awards, including many “Best in show” and her work is in many private collections across the west.

art statement
I am an artist, presently, working in the mediums of colored pencil drawing and digital photography. Sometimes my photographs are used as inspiration for future drawings in colored pencil. Other times, my photos stand alone as a documentation of reality. They may capture a poignancy of person or place that might, otherwise, be lost to an imperfect memory. Often, my work reflects a new reality, which I have envisioned. A goal is to combine a sense of surreal with the real. I want the viewer to enjoy making discoveries while looking at my work and want him/her to linger a few extra seconds to ascertain what is true.

My drawings and photographs present simple subjects, but I infuse them with complex undercurrents. I like to think the work part literary. As I begin and elaborate on the narrative, the audience will supply the last chapter.

I draw on 30x40 illustration board or 20x30 watercolor board. Drawing that size with pencil takes many hours. My drawings are, generally, 100% colored pencil.

Close cropping and images reduced to a minimum of essential elements characterize my photographs. I print each photograph, which affords me almost complete control over the creative and technical process.

a professional artist, writer, illustrator, and designer for over
two years now. He spent five intensive years at West Virginia University in the Graphic Design program and advanced drawing and painting programs. After completion of college, the artist was drawn to freelance work and commissioned art. He has completed numerous portraits and also remains committed to his unique style of
bold surreal pencil works in many collections. He specializes in the mediums of colored pencil, acrylic, and pencil. He works out of his studio in Morgantown, West Virginia.

Early childhood introduced the artist to his fathers surreal pencil drawings on the walls of the house. He soon began drawing portraits of many historical
figures and was drawn to the many interesting faces. His first exhibition came at the age of nine at Dayspring Gallery in his hometown of Saratoga Springs, New York.
As soon as he arrived at college, a wave of creativity began to propel his work to another level.
A unique style emerged from his output that combined imagination, color, and the breakdown of form into complex surreal abstractions. He majored in Graphic Design and Advanced Drawing

Immediately after leaving college, the artist remained steadfast in his commitment to producing lots of work. After completion of a 13
foot mural, the artist began a streak of 40 acrylic compositions over a period of 3 years. A
unique style emerged that fused color, form, shape and imagination.

Artist Justin Michael Jenkins

Hello and welcome to Imaginative Pencil.com. While i was sitting in front of my computer thinking of something to say to you and the visitors, i want to try and convey what my work means to me and what i want it do for you.

My passion for creating started at a very young age and has stood the test of time because my passion is not only everlasting, but i NEED to create. Without this creative process in my life, i am empty and will cease to exist spiritually and without a solid meaning.

Whatever you may think of my style of work i value and respect every opinion, but truly hope when you leave this site you gain "something" from viewing my drawings. With that in mind. Imaginative Pencil.com was formed to present the world with serious art that is done by a professional artist and sold as high quality framed prints for your home or office. I truly want everyone to own one of my works and i hope our prices spark your interest! Thanks for stopping by.
Q.     How do you start a new work?
A.     I start with a concrete idea in my head then left it flow from a starting point on the page and make quick changes as i create.
Q.     What inspires your work?
A.     I get inspiration from the  universe and from everything around me.
Q.     Why do you use lots of color?
A.     I think its my spirit and enthusiasm radiating from within me and it naturally generates more color in my work.
Q.     Why use the medium of pencil?
A.     I always loved to draw. I also love to paint for color. So the  combination of the two led me to this medium naturally.
